We are looking for Artists!
Virtual Reality – Underbelly Arts Festival 2013 – Greg Pritchard and The Ronalds
Have you ever wanted people to see every small detail of your life? Possibly not.
However, the holy grail of film, television and video art has been to reproduce un-mediated vision of people’s lives in real time. Andy Warhol’s films from the 60s like Kitchen, the hype behind Reality TV shows like Sylvania Waters, Big Brother (though heavily mediated), or Christian Boltanski’s Live Feed into MONA all try to capture and portray people’s lives. Attempts have failed because of the necessary capture, transmit and re-project process. Direct video feeds have been restricted by fixed cameras and transmission technology.
For the first time in the history of video art, using wireless broadband and mobile devices, it is possible to realize this dream. And to record people wherever they are, and whatever they’re doing. (Within the constraints of wireless broadband).
Working with Greg Pritchard, the Ronalds (Patrick and Shannon) have devised a system where you can have access to the lives of 8 artists over a 48 hour period (4 over 2 days). We have chosen artists because Underbelly is an Arts Festival and we thought it would be more interesting to the audience. Further to this, the Ronalds have provided their trademark interactivity.
There will be six artists in the Riverina (Thanks to Eastern Riverina Arts and Regional Arts NSW) and two in Sydney. In Wagga there will be Loddy Whitmore, Angela Coombs Matthews, James Farley, Jacob Raupach, Sophie Kurylowicz and Christopher Orchard. In Sydney you will be watching the lives of Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Greg Pritchard.
The Underbelly Arts Festival will take place on August 3-4 on Cockatoo Island.
We are very excited about this project, and what it means, but we want it to be fun, and we would like you to be involved.
Send us an email to email@example.com if you would like to be involved!
